CCRN has now closed downWe are hoping that the station will return, possibly in a slightly different guise, and any news to that end will appear on this website. We set the station up with the aim of proving that a radio station playing oldies doesn't have to sound tired and doesn't have to play a small amount of songs over and over again. It is our belief that, having made a decision to listen to an oldies radio station, you might still want to hear songs you don't know. With that in mind we searched the charts and radio playlists from Canada, Australia, New York, California, Holland, the UK and Belgium to incorporate many songs which would be familiar to the inhabitants of those countries but maybe not to others. For many it's a memory, for others it's a "new" oldie. Album tracks too played a huge part in our "sound"; we well remember the joy of coming home with Pet Sounds, Revolver, Bridge Over Troubled Water, Hunky Dory or Electric Warrior and playing the whole album ..... over and over again, that's why we played album tracks too. The cost of running CCRN has been borne by us but because our listeners listen for such long periods of time, the costs due to the copyright bodies have gone through the roof - a classic example of being victims of our own success! We have never chased advertising, either on the site or on the radio station and therefore we have no revenue stream available. Some listeners have very generously donated to keep the station going but this has always made us feel uncomfortable and, as it happens, didn't cover the bill anyway. CCRN will, hopefully, return but until then, thank you for your support. Bob Lawrence |
